Because my departure to leave to work in Japan had been delayed I decided to do another quick project. I had done an album of a capella hymns in December 1995 and decided to do another such collection that I called Sanbika (the Japanese word for hymn – alternatively spelt sambika).

Learning from the challenges of my previous a capella album I decided to keep the songs short (not singing all verses) and laying down a strong (though too often rushed perhaps) melody track. I also kept a hand near my keyboard to remind me of pitch occasionally as I went.

I often spontaneously created harmonies when they were lacking in the sheet music.

Rather than feature the songs in their recorded order as I usually do, I organised them in a more liturgical order.
