Antidote

antidote

Recorded September 2013 to January 2014.

The music is somewhat more complex than that on Set the World on Fire and the subject matter is generally darker, dealing with themes of rejection and loneliness, but not all the songs are autobiographical.

1. Carry The Cross ’13 (July 18, Sep 6)
Reuses the lyric from the song that was on 2012’s Year of the Dragon but this time set to new music. This song was in consideration for the Rise Again CD. I recorded the vocals in July but then made alterations to the drums and piano in September.

2. Just Enough Rope (Sep 6)
Aside from drums and some FXs the only loop I used from Sony Acid for this album was the guitar sample that served a the backbone of this song about being led on.

3. Solitary Rose (Sep 13)
I wrote and recorded a live version of this back in March. This version has some minor lyrical changes. It’s a about rejection.

4. Sin (Sep 17)
A groovy pop tune about barking up the wrong love tree.

5. Nevermore (Oct 5)
Being a bitter ballad of heartbreak. This original was going to be the final section of a longer piece.

6. Sound & Fury (Oct 5, 12)
Full of metaphors about life. The refrain is from MacBeth. On Oct 12 I altered the end which was a long fade to instead reprise Nevermore.

7. House Of Cards (Oct 24)
A song about pushing one’s luck and destroying a good thing.

8. Fade To Black (completed Nov 30)
A song about someone struggling with depression and addiction. The music was recorded Oct 31 but I had to recover from surgery before I could record the vocals.

9. Present Tense (Dec 9)
Yearning for a love life that isn’t only in the past.

10. Fly (Dec 20)
The desire to break free from the greyness of city life.

11. Resolution (Jan 5)
Techno dance number.

12. Aquamarine (Jan 17)
A poetic love song.

13. Sleepless (Jan 18)
An unabashed torch song
